Rethinking the bedroom
A room that works for the people living in it.
Oʻahu houses are full. Kids share rooms, grandparents move in, and the primary bedroom in a 1980s tract home was never meant to hold a closet, a desk, and a crib. Storage, layout, and comfort fix that. Fresh paint just hides it.
- Two rooms into one suite. Two small bedrooms joined into a primary suite with a real closet. Nonbearing walls only; if a wall holds up the house, we tell you before we plan around it.
- Closets that actually hold things. Reach-in or walk-in, with a layout planned around how you dress and drawers, shelves, and hanging space arranged to suit your room.
- Room for kupuna. Wider doorways, no thresholds to trip on, a little privacy, and blocking in the walls for grab bars later, so aging parents can move in and stay independent.

How much does a bedroom remodel cost on Oʻahu?
Bedroom projects start at $15,000. Like every room we do, they're priced through three published tiers: Beautiful from $15,000, Impressive from $25,000, and Exquisite from $40,000, so you know the scope before we begin. A simple refresh with new flooring and a real closet sits at one end; joining two rooms into a primary suite sits at the other. The $250 on-site consultation is credited to your project on contract.
Can you convert bedrooms into a primary suite?
Yes. A primary suite plan usually means joining two rooms, adding a walk-in closet, and new built-ins and finishes. Our C-5 license covers the carpentry and nonbearing wall changes. If a wall may be load-bearing, or the suite adds a bathroom, we say so first and your written scope names who does that part.
Can you add a closet or a walk-in closet to a bedroom?
Yes. A closet is cabinetry, millwork, and carpentry, which is exactly what our license covers. A lot of older Oʻahu bedrooms never had proper storage, so a reach-in where there was none, or a full walk-in built into a suite, is a regular part of our bedroom work. We frame it, finish it, and fit it out with shelves, drawers, and hanging space sized to how you actually dress, then match the doors and trim to the room.
How long does a bedroom remodel take?
A straightforward bedroom refresh, meaning new flooring, trim, paint, and a closet, usually takes 5 to 10 days. A full primary suite with nonbearing wall changes, built-ins, and a walk-in closet runs closer to 2 to 3 weeks. You get a real start date in writing before we begin, and we hold it, so you can plan where everyone sleeps in the meantime.
Can you turn a den or extra room into a legal bedroom?
Sometimes, but not always. To count as a bedroom, a room has to meet the City and County of Honolulu's code requirements, including a proper window or door for escape, and that can mean work outside our C-5 license and a DPP permit. During planning we look at the room honestly and name the licensed professional responsible for any part we can't do ourselves. If it can't be done right, we tell you.
